Deep Nocturnal Trance Missions was a radio that aired from 1996-2005 on CFCR 90.5 FM in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It was hosted by the Lady Gates from 1995-2003, and by Jon Vaughn from 2003-2005. This show was CFCR's longest running electronic music programme, and it was also their longest running experimental music programme...and it was also their only all-night programming most of it's time on air. The programme aired every Wednesday night/Thursday morning from 1:30am until dawn.
The show's format consisted mostly of experimental DJing, with a few live acts coming down to the station now and again (Fun Fur, Sonic Boar, Mahogany Frog, Andrew Duke...). Occassionally, guest DJs would stop by and add their spice to the pot (Steve Kasstan's 60's french pop sessions, Zeke Phelp's gabba time...). When people called the station to make requests or comment on the show, the Lady Gates (aka Carrie Gates) would often ask what they were doing while listening to the programme. Overwhelmingly, many people described erotic, hedonistic acts in tandem with their listening experience, while others reported a number of hours logged onto the programme while driving a taxi. Still others would simply submit to the trance of Deep Nocturnal Trance Missions, leaving their physical body behind to enter the realm of astral projections into a world of noise, synths, and chaos.
